Most crane winches can take several ropes that meet the crane maker’s specification. Crane makers fit different ropes depending on lifting height, configuration, region and rope maker, and we also offer aftermarket ropes that meet or exceed the OEM spec. The low end of each range is the most economical rope that meets spec; the high end is a higher-quality rope.
On day one they perform the same. Over time, a higher-quality rope keeps its rotation resistance and stability until it wears out normally, with crown wire breaks. A cheaper rope tends to twist up without obvious signs of wear, and is more likely to jump sheaves later in life. Worn sheaves are responsible for 90%+ of the problems we deal with. Check your sheaves with these groove gauges before installing the new rope.
Why 0.25 mm steps and not a go / no-go gauge? A go / no-go gauge only tells you pass or fail. A set in 0.25 mm steps shows how far the groove has worn, so you know how much life the sheave has left and whether it will make it through the next job.

Tell us the standard you inspect to in your quote list: it sets the minimum groove size we mark on the gauges. It does not change the price.
