About Crane Rope Solutions

Making crane rope easier to buy, inspect and maintain.

Dean McDonald, founder

Dean McDonald founded Crane Rope Solutions to make crane rope easier to buy, inspect and maintain. He has spent more than 15 years in the wire rope industry, from building wire rope slings to installing ropes on 700 t+ cranes and running training sessions for some of the largest crane manufacturers and crane fleets in the world.

Dean has sold more than $10 million of wire rope and supplied thousands of crane rope assemblies. Before founding Crane Rope Solutions he was North America Sales Director for Teufelberger-Redaelli, one of the most respected wire rope makers in the world and an OEM rope supplier to the largest crane manufacturers.

Track record

Rope decisions are made on site, so that is where Dean spends his time: on cranes, in crane yards and in customers’ rope stores. See our field work.

Formerly Vancouver Rigging Supply

Before Crane Rope Solutions, Dean ran Vancouver Rigging Supply, a sales agency for wire rope and rigging manufacturers. He exited that company to narrow his focus to his passion: wire rope. Crane Rope Solutions does not offer below-the-hook rigging products, but we can still connect you with over 100 rigging manufacturers, based on your location and your specific needs. What changed.

What you can count on

Across every industry and region, he has seen the same problem: fleets lack the information they need to make good rope decisions. Standards vary by region, crane type and scope of work, and so do OEM requirements, internal procedures and third-party inspection protocols. Crane Rope Solutions exists to close that gap.

How we work

We don't steer you toward the short list of ropes that are most profitable for us to sell. We show you the replacement options that exist worldwide and help you make an informed decision.

If lowest upfront cost matters most to your fleet, we'll supply a rope that meets it. If your goal is to lower your annual rope spend, we'll give you a list of ropes suited to that instead.

Questions we get asked

How fast can you get a rope to us?

Ropes on this site ship in 1 to 2 business days. We ship from the stocking warehouse closest to your site and use a hotshot freight network across the USA and Canada to keep crane downtime to a minimum, even when the rope is needed offshore or in the mountains. We can take care of the whole thing.

Can you do socketing or pour buttons on site?

Yes. We have a direct line to the best socketing technicians in every region of North America.

What certification comes with the rope?

Every wire rope is supplied with a mill certificate. ABS, DNV, CSA, EN 10204 3.1 and 3.2 certificates can be provided on request. Proof test certificates come with every terminated rope; see proof testing by standard.

What are your payment terms?

Net 30 for approved accounts. We also accept Visa and Mastercard.

Do you supply OEM-specification ropes?

Yes. Every rope we supply is built to the crane manufacturer's (OEM) rope specification: the same diameter, tolerance, construction, lay, grade, breaking load and end fittings. See how to order a replacement crane rope.

Can I call after hours?

Yes. Call or text 604-813-9473 any time. If you need to know at 8 pm whether a rope can be on its way to you by tomorrow morning, or you are not sure if you can run a rope at 6 am, call or text.

What if the rope does not match the specification?

If we supply a rope that does not meet or exceed the specification you provided, we replace it and pay the freight. See warranty and returns.

Is the free sheave gauge really free?

Yes. Every rope quote gets a go/no-go sheave gauge for your crane winch, whether you buy the rope from us or not. It is a thank-you for giving us a shot. We email you to confirm which standard you work to, so the gauge matches it. Canada and USA.

Can I return a rope?

All sales are final, because ropes are cut and terminated to order.

What if a rope has a manufacturing defect?

Every rope is guaranteed free of manufacturing defects. If you suspect a defect, tell us and send photos. We may ask for some measurements or other details so we can work with the rope manufacturer and give you a proper preliminary assessment.

Need a rope for your crane?

Find your crane for the diameter, length, OEM part number and a price estimate for every winch. Or send us what you know and we quote it the same day.

Your old rope can help train the next rigger

When you buy a rope from us, we would love your retired rope too. We donate it to Ropes for Riggers. The rope is recycled and the proceeds fund scholarships for people entering the crane and rigging trades.

We coordinate pickup or drop-off, with no minimum. Outside our area we confirm any freight cost with you first. Ropes for Riggers has applied for charity status, and tax receipts will be available soon. How the donation works.
